How to Increase Traffic to your siteThe first thing to do in increasing the amount of traffic to your site is to get a counter so that you can measure how successful your strategies have been. These counters can ether be displayed to your visitors or hidden for only you to see. Many companies offer free counters here are a couple:
Once you have some kind of device with which you can measure your success begin to Register your site with as many Search Engines as possible. You can automate this process by using a submissions programme such as the Submissions Wizard @ http://www.exploit.com/ this will save you a lot of time and money.
Another thing to note about improving your traffic is that a good domain name will get you much more visits than a stupid long one (like mine).
Announcing your site in Newsgroups, is a good way to reach hundreds of potential visitors. Simply post a message (or ad) about your site in the relevant subject group and that it!
Tell your local papers, Internet Magazines, your friends, Bill Gates, the other Bill, in fact anyone that could be interested. MAKE YOUR MESSAGE CLEAR!!!
The next step is to start winning awards. This will not only improve the credibility of your site it will also rocket your hit ratings. Below are three sites which you can suggest your site to for an award:
Find some freeware or shareware software that relates to your site, contact the owner and ask if you can copy it for download to your site. This will attract loads of visitors to your site as it gives them something to take away with them that's free. Another great way of attracting visitors is to offer competitions and give-aways, people love these!
If all else fails, join a link exchange in which you display a banner on your site and every time it appears you earn a credit which goes towards displaying your banner advertising your site on another. It's quick to set up and free publicity, try these sites:
Exchange links with a related site, e.g. you place a link on your site, they place one on theirs. It's great because you both get what you want and it doesn't cost a penny/cent.
Remember you don't just want people to visit your site once. Build up a mailing list so that you can mail your viewers information about new events, competitions etc. Also try to keep your pages less than 30 Kb in size as most people will not wait for a huge page to download. Tailor your site to it's visitors needs, encourage feedback, and think about who is visiting your site and how nationality may change their views.
