There are many different
ways to make money from your site, here is just a
few...
Sell Banner Ads -
If your site gets enough traffic it may be worth considering
selling companies space on your site to advertise their product or
service. Banners are usually images or animations approx. 400 by
60 pixels. To Sell your own banners you will need a banner
rotation system, try http://www.cgi-reasources.com/.
Join a Click Though
System - This is a good way to make money from your site if
you only have a moderate number of visitors. The idea is that you
display a banner on your site with a personalised link though ID,
every time a person clicks though the banner to the advertisers
site you make a small sum of money. To find out more or join a
scheme see,
http://www.Clicktrade.com/.
Join An Affiliate
Program - This is probably the easiest way to make money from
your site. You simply place a link or advertisement on your site
to the advertisers and when they sell a product or service you get
a percentage. E.g., Via the sale of a book etc. A good example of
a affiliate program is at http://www.amazon.com/.
Sell goods directly
from your site - Electronic commerce is one of the fastest
growing net industries. It involves simply selling hard goods or
software direct from your site. For a starting point see,
http://www.icat.com/.
Sell content - If
your site contains information that is exclusive to your site sell
it. This involves simply selling specialised content in your site.
For a good example of this see, http://www.which.net/.
For this you will need to be able to take credit cards securely.
See How to take credit card orders on the web.
Sponsorship - This
involves contacting companies relating to your sites content and
getting them to give you some goods or services in exchange for
links and possibly banner space on your site.
Consultancy - If
your site does well why not sell your personal experience gained
to another web developer or individual.
Sell Links - Set
up a premium links page in which you can charge a certain fee for
related sites to display a link.
Adult Check - If
your site contains anything with adult content, join one of the
adult verification schemes which will pay you for any new credit
card sign ups. See http://www.AdultCheck.com.
Offer Shareware -
You can offer lots of things not just software on a shareware
basis. Things such as information or various other services can
also be sold from your site in this way.
Host Shareware -
This involves devoting a section of your site to offering
shareware downloads for others in exchange for a percentage of any
licence fees sold. This could also improve your
traffic.
Host Sites at your
domain - If you have got a desirable domain name why not offer
others space on your server for a fee each year. If a company
called coolnet wanted space they would get a certain amount of
space and then a name such as:
http://www.yourname.com/coolnet
Sell your Email Lists
- Simply set up a guest book or mailing list on your site and
put all the names and other information into a database and sell
them to a third party marketer.
Host Competitions -
In the same way as emailing lists you can sell all the names
of the people which take part in your competitions to third
parties. Competitions will also increase your traffic.
Advertorials -
This is a great way of providing advertising space to a
company or organisation that does not have an Internet presence.
Simply give that company a page (like a magazine add) to advertise
their product/Service in exchange for a certain fee.
Sell Accessories -
Directly sell your customers things that relate to your
Internet presence or brand, e.g. mugs, mouse mats, pens etc. See
http://www.Disney.com
for example.
